The
Family Treat restaurant/ice cream shop has been a staple of Southwest
Detroit for the previous 50 years. Known to many in the community
by it's original name of "Tastee-Freeze", the Family Treat has
been owned by Jim French for the past 20 years or so. Jim (and
his sisters) are graduates of St. Gabriel's elementary school
and Holy Redeemer High School. Jim, his family and his staff have
always been tremendous boosters of Southwest Detroit, particularly
of supporting youth in the community.
Once
a week, usually after a particularly longer difficult run we always
go to the Family Treat to get ice cream parfaits. Jim has been
providing these to us at a cost so low that is almost free for
just about the previous 10 years. Jim and his staff do these kind
of things because they want to make a positive difference for
kids. Thank you to Jim and his staff for all the great things

(near Vernor)....and make sure you order a parfait - one great
ice cream!
