When
you think about Detroit, familiar names such as Vernor's Ginger
Ale, Sander's Ice Cream, Stroh's Beer automatically come to mind.
Another Detroit institution is the infamous Duly's Coney Island,
which was prominently featured in the movie "The Rosary Murders".
Duly's
Coney Island is family owned and first opened in 1921. Longtime
owner Yli Duly Seit passed away unexpectedly on January 25, 1998,
and Duly's is now owned by Yli's sister Marion Toptani. Duly's
is located at the busy intersection of Vernor and Junction (directly
across from Holy Redeemer) and is unlike any other restaurant
in the city. Duly's features almost exclusive counter (stool)
seating, is open 24 hours a day, 361 days a year, is in a building
that is only 12 foot wide yet is at least 48 foot long. The menu
in Duly's sticks to the basics.

Although
there are a few other menu items, you basically go to Duly's for
Coney Dogs, eggs and potatoes, or loose hamburger sandwiches.
These variations of meals are served hot and within 2-3 minutes
of your order. We guarantee it will be the most tasty and delicious
food you've ever had!
Who
eats at Duly's? Everyone! It is not unusual to find State Police
and Detroit Police officers, politicians, priests, and local neighborhood
residents all sitting elbow-to-elbow getting a great meal. As
for the price...the most inexpensive food in town! "Duly Dogs"
run $1.50 each and a breakfast runs $2.00.
Duly's
has been a tremendous supporter of Holy Redeemer ever since the
restaurant opened, and Duly's always ensures that the Redeemer
cross-country runners have a great breakfast after our traditional
Sunday morning practice runs. If you've never tried a Duly Dog,
do yourself a favor the next time you're in Detroit and experience
a Detroit original: Duly's Coney Island.
