It has been a great 2008 cross-country season
Saturday, November 1st 2008 The Chavez Aztec Eagles won the Charter School conference league championship for the 3rd year in a row, we were Charter Conference Sectional Champions for the third year in a row and we also won the Southwest Detroit High School championship for the third year straight. In addition to these championship the Aztec Eagles won a 3rd place championship at the Centerline Invitational.
In the 2008 regional championship the Aztec Eagles placed 6th overall out of 11 teams and freshman Alex Aguilar placed 10th overall earning him the honor of being able to qualify for the State Championship race held at the MIS Speedway in Jackson, MI. In spite of the many victories we have had over these past many years – the most exciting thing has been to watch the development of the students on the team. They are responsible, hard working, energetic and committed young people. The students of Cesar Chavez are a testimony to many of the good things taking place within the Southwest Detroit community at large.
On behalf of the Chavez cross-country coaching staff (Coaches Erin Irwin, Ron Maynor, Doug Bajor and Roberto Aguilar) we would like to thank each and every one of our many supporters over these past 4 years. Your encouragement of our students has allowed us to build a fine competitive team of runners and athletes. During the past 4 years we started the program from ground zero and were also able to start a charter cross-country league that now numbers some 7 – 8 teams. While the coaching staff (aside from Roberto Aguilar) will not be returning to Chavez next year, we are confident that the cross-country team will continue its winning ways and making a positive difference in the lives of the young people who run.
As always – “Vaya Con Dios” and “Go Aztec Eagles”! - Coach Pat |
